Lagan's Foundation

New trustee joins the board at Lagan’s Foundation

Dr David Wright, a consultant paediatrician at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport with a focus on cardiology, is the charity's new Safeguarding lead.

Dr Wright has been a consultant for 14 years and has been based at Stepping Hill for the last five years. Previously he worked at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

He has also been the medical safeguarding lead for 12 years.

Dr Wright said he was delighted with his new role at Lagan’s Foundation.

“I have been referring families to Lagan’s Foundation for many years as I recognise the amazing work that the charity does. Often it is about the parents having someone to talk so they don’t feel alone.

“I was looking for a new role and challenge, and this was the perfect fit. It is important that people understand the value of a service like Lagan’s Foundation.

“I understand the NHS systems but I also bring a wealth of safeguarding experience too.”

The father of two, Dr Wright also teaches ethics and law to third and fifth year students at the University of Manchester Medical School where he is an Associate Dean. He also teaches paediatrics to fourth year medical students at Stepping Hill.

Founder and CEO Carren Bell said: “I am delighted that David is joining us as a trustee with responsibility for safeguarding. He brings with him a wealth of experience and he has been a long-time supporter of the charity.

“As a consultant with a focus on cardiology, he understands exactly what our parents have gone through and the ongoing challenges of raising a child with such complex needs.”
